The shelled heteropods, or atlantids are a family of planktonic swimming snails that spend their entire lives in the upper ocean. This fascinating group are well adapted for their planktonic life style with beautiful, delicate shells that are keeled like a ship for stability, swimming fins and complex eyes to detect prey. Our research aims to encourage the identification and documentation of shelled heteropods through open access information and images.
